It’s Summer!

…and you know what that means…

BUGS!

Now I do my best to put up with most insects, following my own version of the “…do no harm…” doc oath, however that once they begin attacking my person…it’s ON!

Here is a simple, easy to make Bug Spray that I use. It is not as strong as DEET, but it is also safe for skin, & technically edible, although I wouldn’t recommend drinking it.

Natural Bug Spray

small spray bottle     ½ cup distilled water     1 tablespoon rubbing alcohol

10-15 drops essential oil: lemongrass, any mint, lavender, citronella, eucalyptus, tea tree, neem, geranium, litsea cubeba- can be any one of these or any combination. My favorite is a mixture of lavender & citronella then I add a few drops of lemon or mint to keep it light. It smells like lemon and bugs hate it! (Find 100% pure essential oils here.)

If your skin needs a little love or if it tends to dry out you can add a splash of Aloe Vera juice as well. Obviously it won’t treat your skin as much as gel or oil, but those tend to gum up spray bottles.

Directions:

Pour the alcohol into the spray bottle. Add the essential oils and shake well. Add water, leaving enough room at the top so it will mix when you shake it. If you use a large spray bottle, ingredients can be doubled or tripled.

To use:

Shake well before each use. Spray lightly on body: hands, arms and legs especially. Avoid getting into the eyes, ears, mouth and nose. You should reapply it often if you sweat, if you are in the rain, or if you go swimming.

DIY Natural, Soothing, Lovely, Shaving Cream

DIY Natural, Soothing, Lovely, Shaving Cream

I am a big Do-It-Your-Selfer.

Anything that you can make yourself, either to save money, save space (due to packaging), or save your household from unnecessary chemicals (often times all of the above!) I say DO IT!

This blog is one that I subscribe to & read often. She has great tips for the DIY lifestyle. Some things, like this one, look amazing!

Now, I haven’t tried it, honestly, I don’t shave as often as many women I know. I think I’m going to make this for my husband though the next time he threatens to shave off his beard & go back to his goatee. And the boys are starting to shave as well!

I’m told that Spring is around the corner, even though it was 0 degrees this morning, so I will be shaving in the near future. If any of you try this before you see this post updated by me, please comment below!

All of the ingredients in this make it look so lush & lovely, I don’t know how your skin wouldn’t love it!

NEW BLOG!!!

Okay…I’m a little excited about this one.

I have decided to start a new blog completely devoted to all of the tips, tricks, recipes, & beautiful quirky things that make our family work. (And, to be honest, some of the things that I’ve tried, that DIDN’T!)

I have a personal blog that I mostly used to vent about my concerns about 1 child’s autism, another child’s cancer, my divorce from my former husband & the occasional creative writing attempt.

I also have a home based business page (which I will often share with you)  here on wordpress, kNowMoreMT.wordpress.com. I make natural cleaning products & often get asked about tips & tricks (& my recipes!).

I figured, maybe it was time to start a non-business page where I could talk about those tips, recipes (the ones I can share, anyway), food, reusing, recycling, & how, as a family we have learned to love through it all.

I hope that you will stay tuned through this journey with me!
